The Digital Switchover explained

The Government has decided that analogue TV will be switched off in the UK between now and 2012 and replaced with a digital signal. Every household will be able to receive digital TV.

Unless you switch to digital you may not be able to receive your favorite TV programmes so to keep your TV service, you will need to convert all TV’s to digital before your area’s switchover date.  By switching this will give you a bigger choice of TV channels.
